Taco Bell Film Festival

Taco Bell Film Festival Presented by Delta Air Line® started as a joke and quickly became a reality. But also a joke.

What started off as a dumb joke inside the group chat in January 2022, became a dare to ourselves to see if we could actually pull off a “Taco Bell Film Festival.”

Here is the story of how we started a fake film festival and turned it into a real live experience from IRL to online and spanning international borders.

Every reputable film festival has a social media presence and the Taco Bell Film Festival Presented by Delta Air Line was no exception. We created an instagram and a twitter and started to “be social” as the fest. We got the attention of our filmmaker friends who were wondering what was this mysterious festival all their friends had just started talking about.

We were contacted by a reporter from AV Club’s food website The Takeout. Instead of responding with a boring written email, we had Official Spokesman Banjoman15 answer her questions in a video that quickly set the tone for the festival.

By the time the submission deadline arrived we had over 100 submissions and 45 of them were Taco Bell related. Good news is that this year’s submission rules were very lax in that if you made a Taco Bell Film, then you got it!

We built a website (password: livemas).

We made T-shirts.

We made an app.

We had a live screening in a packed theatre.

We had a specialty cocktail (custom made Baja Blast) and a custom made step and repeat.

All in all it was a great success. Stay tuned for our next fake film festival.
